3. Abrahmacariyā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
Dasasikkhāpada
(The ten precepts of a novice monk)
1. Pāṇātipātā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
1. Pāṇātipātā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from killing living creatures.
2. Adinnādānā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from stealing.
2. Adinnādānā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from stealing.
3. Abrahmacariyā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual activity.
4. Musāvādā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from lying.
5. Surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from taking alcoholic drinks and food (distilled and fermented) that cause intoxication and negligence.
6. Vikālabhojanā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from food at the wrong time (from noon to the following dawn).6. Vikālabhojanā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
7. Naccagītavāditavisūkadassanā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from dancing, singing, music, and seeing shows, which are stumbling blocks to wholesomeness.8. Mālāgandhavilepanadhāraṇamaṇḍana vibhūsanaṭṭhānā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from beautifying and adorning myself with garlands, perfumes, and makeup.9. Uccāsayanamahāsayanā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from sitting or lying down on seats or beds with legs over the limit and on large seats or beds, and from using intricate or detailed bed coverings (The bed should not exceed 8 sugata inches, approximately 20 modern inches in height, measured from the base board down.)
10. Jātarūparajatapaṭiggahaṇā veramaṇi sikkhāpadaṁ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the precept to refrain from receiving pure gold and silver.
