You might be wondering why we perform Narasīhagāthā on Father's Day. The reason for this is that these are the words in which Yasodhara spoke to her son Rahula about his father, the Śākyamuni Buddha's virtues. She not only explains the Buddha's qualities as a father to Rahula, but she also asks Rahula to go and ask for his inheritance on his behalf. As a result, this may be the most perfect event for Buddhists to consider how we should think about appreciating and being grateful to our fathers. With this wonderful honor, may all fathers be well, prosperous, and safe.
Vinumi Ayathna, our singer, is a health science student at Nawaloka College of Higher Studies in Sri Lanka.
