1. Tirokuḍḍesu tiṭṭhanti,
Outside the walls they stand (and wait),

sandhisiṅghāṭakesu ca; 

at the junctions and the crossroads.

Dvārabāhāsu tiṭṭhanti,
they wait beside the door posts.

āgantvāna sakaṁ gharaṁ.

Returning to their former homes

2. Pahūte annapānamhi,
But when lavish (abundant) food and drink

khajjabhojje upaṭṭhite;
of many kinds (both staple and non-staple) is prepared,

Na tesaṁ koci sarati,
no-one remembers them at all,

sattānaṁ kammapaccayā.
because of those beings’s past unwholesome deeds.
