Appamāda
(Diligence)
28. Pamādaṁ appamādena,
negligence with diligence,
yadā nudati paṇḍito;
Driving away from (negligence) as a sage would
Paññā pāsāda māruyha,
Ascending the tower of wisdom
asoko sokiniṁ pajaṁ;
and free of sorrow, (observing) the sorrowing masses
Pabbataṭṭhova bhummaṭṭhe,
As someone standing on a mountain
dhīro bāle avekkhati.
That (wise person) observes unwise on the ground below.
