Dhammapda 51-52
(Sayings of the Dhamma)

Puppha
(Flowers)

51. Yathāpi ruciraṁ pupphaṁ,
Like a beautiful flower,

Vaṇṇavantaṁ agandhakaṁ;
Brightly coloured but lacking scent,

Evaṁ subhāsitā vācā,
So are well-spoken words

aphalā hoti akubbato.
Fruitless when not carried out.

52. Yathāpi ruciraṁ pupphaṁ,
Like a beautiful flower,

Vaṇṇavantaṁ sagandhakaṁ; 
Brightly coloured and with scent,

Evaṁ subhāsitā vācā,
So are well-spoken words

Saphalā hoti sakubbato
Fruitful when carried out.
